Camel rugs in the room

Camel is a fashion classic that also convinces in the home. The golden brown shade looks warm and high-quality without being obtrusive and suits modern and classic furniture alike. A camel rug brings warmth into cool, light rooms and makes materials such as leather, brass and wood look particularly refined.

In the living room

In the living room, camel harmonises with sofas in white, grey, black or cognac. Large sizes such as 200 x 300 cm or 250 x 300 cm take in the whole seating group. If you like things simple, choose a plain design; if you want more texture, a rug with fine gradations. You will find more combinations among the living room rugs.

Round rugs

In this shade there is a comparatively large number of round rugs, for example with a diameter of 150 cm. They suit the space under a round dining table, a reading corner or a nursery, where they form a soft, friendly play area. We show a larger selection under Round Rugs.

Which camel rugs does Morgenland offer?

Just under three quarters of our camel rugs are modern rugs. Two thirds come from India, the rest from Persia and Afghanistan. About two in five rugs are hand-woven, just as many hand-knotted, and some hand-tufted. Half of all designs are plain.

Gabbeh from India

Gabbeh rugs from India make up the largest share, both knotted and made on the loom. They take up the simple construction of the Persian nomad rugs and show camel as a calm, naturally shaded surface. Most are made of pure virgin wool, some with silk or kork wool.

Classic designs

About one in four camel rugs shows a classic Oriental pattern, often with a medallion. These include Persian rugs and Ariana rugs from Afghanistan, in which camel forms the warm ground for tendrils and blossoms.

Sizes and shapes

Just under three quarters of the camel rugs are rectangular, about one in ten each is round or a runner, and there are a few square designs. Common sizes are 200 x 300 cm, 250 x 300 cm, 170 x 240 cm and 150 x 200 cm. Small sizes such as 60 x 90 cm work as mats.

Which colours go with camel?

  • Black and anthracite for an elegant, modern contrast.
  • White and cream for a light, friendly effect.
  • Dark blue and navy as a classic duo from the world of fashion.
  • Olive green and khaki for a natural look.
  • Cognac leather for tone-on-tone combinations.

Frequently asked questions about camel rugs

What is the difference between camel and caramel?

Camel is more golden and a little lighter, caramel warmer and redder. You will find a dedicated selection among the caramel rugs.

Is a plain rug easy to care for?

Plain rugs show stains a little more clearly than patterned ones. A medium shade such as camel is less sensitive than white or black. Wool is also naturally dirt-repellent.

Is camel a timeless colour?

Yes. Camel has been one of the classic colours in fashion and interiors for decades, because it looks warm and goes with almost everything. A camel rug can still be used when wall colours or furniture change.

Are there light shades of brown with patterns?

Yes. You will find many patterned Persian rugs in similar tones among the light brown rugs.

We show the complete selection of brown tones under Brown Rugs.
