Rugs 200 x 250 cm

Between two standard sizes

With five square metres, 200 x 250 cm lies between the widespread formats 170 x 240 cm and 200 x 300 cm. It is as wide as the larger one but half a metre shorter, and so fits rooms where three metres of rug would be too long. On this page you will see pieces around 190 to 210 cm wide and 240 to 262 cm long. You will find the neighbouring formats under rugs in 170 x 240 cm and rugs in 200 x 300 cm.

Dining table, seating group, double bed

Under a dining table of around 130 x 80 cm, about 60 cm of rug remains on each side, enough for the chairs. In the living room, the format holds a sofa with a coffee table and an armchair. Laid across under a double bed 140 cm wide, the rug shows about 55 cm on both sides.

Bidjar and Tabriz in the lead

Hand-knotted oriental rugs make up the largest part, most of them from Persia. Bidjar rugs and Tabriz in 50 Raj are the most common, followed by Persian Gabbeh, whose pile is particularly thick. Mashhad and Moud from Khorasan in eastern Iran as well as a few Nain are added. Ziegler rugs from Afghanistan and Pakistan show generous floral patterns in muted colours. There are also Bukhara rugs with their typical göl ornaments and Kilims from Maimene.

Material and motifs

Alongside new wool, Kurk wool is strongly represented, and a good share of the rugs contains silk. The medallion is the most common motif, followed by floral patterns. Multicoloured pieces and dark red predominate among the colours, then beige and dark blue.

Modern rugs

A significant share is modern: Gabbeh-style rugs from India, abstract and plain designs, some of them hand-tufted. Handwoven pieces complete the selection. The modern rugs page shows more contemporary designs.

Frequently asked questions about rugs in 200 x 250 cm

200 x 250 or 170 x 240 cm?

If your sofa is wider than two metres or a second armchair is added, 200 x 250 cm gives the seating group more stability. 170 x 240 cm is narrower and fits better in rooms with little space between sofa and wall.

What is Kurk wool?

Kurk wool comes from the shoulder and neck of the sheep. This wool is particularly fine and supple and gives the pile a slight sheen.

How do I care for a rug with silk?

Silk is a strong, tear-resistant fibre. Vacuum without a brush, blot stains immediately and leave thorough cleaning to our rug cleaning service.
