A rare size

Rugs in 240 x 240 cm are rare in our range; here you will find a small selection. It includes round and square pieces with side lengths or diameters of around 230 to 244 cm; the round ones are in the majority. For these, 240 x 240 cm refers to the diameter. If you have some leeway on size, take a look at the round rugs and square rugs pages, where you will also find pieces of around 250 cm.

Persian classics

About half of the selection is oriental, and these rugs all come from Persia. The focus is on Nain rugs, some in the 9La quality, with a light ground and fine drawing. They are joined by Tabriz in 50 Raj and Mashhad from north-eastern Iran, both hand-knotted and usually with a medallion in the centre. Their pile is made of new wool or Kurk wool, with silk in some pieces.

Jute and Gabbeh

On the modern side there are jute rugs from India, handwoven and mostly in natural tones. The plant fibre brings a coarse, lively texture into the room and goes well with light wood, linen and rattan. Keep jute as dry as possible and only dab stains lightly with a damp cloth. The selection is completed by Gabbeh rugs from Persia with a thick, high pile and a simple design.

Where 240 x 240 cm fits

As a square, the format gives a room of a good three by three metres a clear centre, for example under a seating group with two armchairs or under the bed in the bedroom. As a circle, it looks softer and loosens up rooms with lots of straight lines. In terms of colour, you will find dark blue and dark red alongside natural tones.

Frequently asked questions about 240 x 240 cm

Why is the selection so small?

Round and square rugs are rarer overall than rectangular ones, and 240 cm lies between the more common sizes. The selection changes as soon as new pieces are added.

Which table suits a round rug of 240 cm?

A round dining table of around 100 to 120 cm in diameter. The rug then extends far enough beyond the edge of the table on every side that even chairs pushed back still stand on it.

What is the difference between a jute rug and a Persian rug?

A jute rug is flat-woven from plant fibres and usually has no pile. A Persian rug is knotted from wool, has a soft pile and usually an elaborate pattern with a medallion and border.
