Generous at 2.50 metres wide

At 250 x 300 cm, a rug covers seven and a half square metres. Compared with 200 x 300 cm, it gains half a metre in width without reaching the length of 250 x 350 cm. This is the size for living rooms in which a seating group with a sofa and two armchairs should stand entirely on the rug. The page shows rugs around 240 to 262 cm wide and 285 to 315 cm long.

Room for a long table and a large sofa

Under a dining table of around 180 x 100 cm, a good 60 cm of rug remains all around, so that chairs stay on the surface even when pushed back. For the room, add a strip of free floor to the rug; the format works well in rooms from about 3.40 x 4 m. Narrower rooms are better served by rugs in 200 x 300 cm; for even longer tables there are rugs in 250 x 350 cm.

Ziegler from Afghanistan and Pakistan

No other type of rug is represented as often in this format as Ziegler rugs. They are knotted in Afghanistan and Pakistan and show large-scale, calm floral and tendril patterns in muted tones. On a large surface, these patterns unfold their effect without overloading the room. Accordingly, a large part of the selection comes from Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Classics from Persia

Persian rugs nevertheless form the largest group by origin. Tabriz in 50 Raj, Bidjar and Nain in 6La are the most common, plus Farahan, Moud and Gabbeh with a thick, high pile. Many show a medallion; the pile is made of new wool or Kurk wool, often with silk.

Modern designs and patchwork

A large share is modern. Strongly represented are designer rugs, plus Gabbeh-style rugs from India and patchwork rugs, assembled from individual pieces of rug. Abstract and plain surfaces keep even large rooms calm. Multicoloured, beige and red are the most common colours.

Frequently asked questions about rugs in 250 x 300 cm

What is a Ziegler rug?

Ziegler rugs are knotted by hand in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Generous floral patterns and muted colours that combine well with modern furniture are typical.

250 x 300 or 200 x 300 cm?

If only the front feet of the sofa stand on the rug, 200 x 300 cm is enough. If armchairs at the sides should also fit, or a wide dining table stands on it, the extra width provides the necessary leeway.

How does a large rug stay beautiful for a long time?

Turn it by 180 degrees about once a year, so that walkways and sunlight do not always hit the same spot. Vacuum regularly and have it professionally washed every few years, for example by our rug cleaning service.
