Patchwork or vintage rugs were invented in Turkey at the beginning of the 21st century. They are made from pieces of old and sometimes antique Persian carpets. Individual sections are cut from old carpets and artfully sewn together to create rugs that vary in design. Before they are processed, the carpet pieces are thoroughly cleaned, neutralised and re-dyed to give the finished rug a distinct and modern look. Special zig-zag seams and an additional backing give the rugs stability and durability. Thanks to the process used, every patchwork carpet is unique. The English term "vintage" simply means exquisite, classic or old.
