Black and White Rugs

Black and white rugs create clear, graphic contrasts. Almost all our designs are modern rugs from India with abstract patterns, plus a few rugs with Oriental patterns.

Black and white rugs in the room

Black and white are the strongest opposites in the world of colour. A black and white rug therefore brings graphic clarity to any room and can at the same time be combined with almost any colour, because it does not bring a hue of its own into play. It suits minimalist interiors as well as rooms with many colours, to which it gives calm and structure.

In the living room

In the living room, a black and white rug quickly becomes a work of art on the floor. With sofas in grey, cognac or strong yellow, it creates an exciting contrast. Sizes such as 170 x 240 cm, 200 x 300 cm and 250 x 350 cm suit small and large seating groups. You will find more ideas for your living room among the living room rugs.

In the study and hallway

In a study, a graphic pattern underlines a focused, clear atmosphere. In the entrance area, it sets a modern first accent that makes guests curious. Small sizes such as 60 x 90 cm or 120 x 180 cm are particularly suitable for this. If you want to continue the look, choose picture frames, lamps or cushions in black and white that pick up the pattern without repeating it.

Which black and white rugs does Morgenland offer?

Almost all our black and white rugs are modern rugs. Most come from India, a few from Turkey. Around four in five are hand-tufted, and the rest are woven. Nearly all show abstract patterns, and almost all are made of virgin wool. The pieces from Turkey are woven rugs with Oriental patterns; occasionally you will also find hand-knotted Oriental rugs here.

Designer rugs

Designer rugs make up a large part. They work with geometric shapes, lines, circles or free compositions reminiscent of modern art. Some designs play with different heights and textures, which make the pattern look even more three-dimensional.

Hand-tufted wool rugs

In hand-tufting, the wool is inserted by hand into a backing fabric with a tufting tool. This makes it possible to create the clear outlines and precise patterns that are typical of black and white designs. The back is then covered with a fabric that gives the rug stability.

Sizes and shapes

Almost all black and white rugs are rectangular, and there is the odd square design. Common sizes are 170 x 240 cm, 200 x 300 cm, 120 x 180 cm and 200 x 250 cm, and for large rooms 250 x 350 cm. The larger the rug, the calmer the rest of the interior should be.

Which colours go with black and white?

  • Yellow and mustard for a cheerful, lively accent.
  • Red as a strong, classic contrast.
  • Grey in all its shades for a calm, refined effect.
  • Wood in oak or walnut, which softens the severity.
  • Green plants as a natural splash of colour.

Frequently asked questions about black and white rugs

Is a black and white rug delicate?

Stains are more visible on the white areas, and fluff and dust on the black ones. A pattern with many changes between light and dark is therefore more practical than large plain areas. Regular vacuuming keeps the contrasts crisp.

What does hand-tufted mean?

Hand-tufted rugs are made with a hand-guided tool that shoots the yarn into a backing fabric. They are quicker to make than hand-knotted rugs and are particularly suitable for modern, graphic patterns.

Which colours are available on their own?

You will find rugs in pure black under Black Rugs, and light designs under White Rugs. The anthracite rugs show dark, almost black shades of grey.
