Off-White Rugs

Off-white is a warm, broken white, like undyed wool. Our off-white rugs are mainly simple, modern Gabbeh and Loribaft rugs, plus Oriental rugs such as Ziegler and Nain.

Off-white rugs in the room

Off-white makes a room bright and spacious. Unlike pure white, it has a slight grey or beige shimmer that makes it look warmer and livelier. An off-white rug reflects a lot of light and lets furniture, wood and plants stand out particularly clearly.

In the hallway and kitchen

Almost a third of our off-white rugs are runners, plus many small sizes such as 60 x 90 cm and 70 x 140 cm. They suit the hallway, kitchen and entrance area, where they make the room brighter and cool floors feel more homely. You will find more designs under Hallway Rugs and Kitchen Rugs.

In the bedroom

In the bedroom, off-white looks calm and clear. With light wood, linen and white, the result is a bright, relaxed room, and with dark furniture a clear contrast. A rug of 120 x 180 cm fits well beside the bed, and 170 x 240 cm underneath it.

In the living room

In the living room, an off-white rug forms a light, calm surface on which sofas in grey, cognac or dark green show to particularly good effect. If you want to enhance the effect, combine it with cushions and throws in natural tones and keep the walls light.

Which off-white rugs does Morgenland offer?

Around three quarters of our off-white rugs have a modern design. About half are hand-woven, the other half hand-knotted. More than half come from India, a third from Persia and a few from Afghanistan. Almost all are made of virgin wool.

Gabbeh and Loribaft

Gabbeh rugs make up the largest share, both Persian originals and Indian designs that take up the style. Persian Gabbeh rugs are hand-knotted and have a dense wool pile, while hand-woven variants are flatter and lighter. They are joined by Loribaft rugs, which are a little more finely knotted.

Classic patterns

About a quarter of the off-white rugs show classic Oriental patterns, such as Ziegler or Nain rugs, in which off-white forms the light ground for delicate tendrils. Half of all designs, on the other hand, are plain.

Sizes and shapes

Just under two thirds of the off-white rugs are rectangular, and almost a third are runners up to three metres long. There are also individual square and oval designs.

Which colours go with off-white?

  • Black and anthracite for a clear, graphic look.
  • Natural wood in all shades for a warm effect.
  • Sage and olive green for a natural, calm colour palette.
  • Terracotta and cognac as warm accents.
  • Grey and taupe for a gentle tone-on-tone combination.

Frequently asked questions about off-white rugs

Is an off-white rug delicate?

Light rugs show dirt more quickly. However, wool is naturally dirt-repellent, and small runners or mats are easier to care for than a large rug. In heavily used areas, regular vacuuming and acting quickly on stains help.

Hand-woven or hand-knotted?

Hand-knotted rugs consist of countless individual knots and have a dense, soft surface. Hand-woven rugs are made on a loom, are flatter and lighter and work well under furniture and doors. You will find both variants in off-white.

Off-white or cream?

Off-white is cooler and simpler, cream warmer and more yellowish. You will find fine Persian rugs with a cream ground among the cream rugs, and earthier natural tones among the natural-coloured rugs.

You will also find off-white rugs under White Rugs and Beige Rugs.
