Sand-Coloured Rugs

Sand brings a calm, sunny warmth into the room. Almost all our sand-coloured rugs are hand-knotted Oriental rugs from Persia, alongside modern designer rugs and vintage-look designs.

Sand-coloured rugs in the room

Sand tones recall beaches, deserts and warm light. They look friendly and serene and go with almost any interior. In Oriental rugs, sand often forms the ground for medallions and tendrils in blue, red or brown, so that the rug stays light and still shows a strong pattern.

In the living room

Our sand-coloured rugs come particularly often in large sizes such as 250 x 350 cm, 200 x 300 cm and 250 x 300 cm. They suit spacious living rooms where the rug should take in the whole seating group. With sofas in white, grey or cognac, the result is a warm, elegant room. The living room rugs offer further ideas.

In the dining room

Under a large dining table, a sand-coloured Persian rug creates an inviting atmosphere. The pattern hides small marks, and the light ground colour keeps the room feeling open. We show rugs in suitable sizes for the dining area under Dining Room Rugs.

Which sand-coloured rugs does Morgenland offer?

All our sand-coloured rugs are hand-knotted rugs. Just under four fifths are Persian rugs, and the rest come from Afghanistan and India. Nine out of ten show classic Oriental patterns, more than half of them with a medallion. There are also modern designer rugs from India and vintage-look designs, many of them with silk.

Mashhad, Keshan and Sarouk

The most strongly represented are Mashhad rugs from north-east Persia, which are often knotted in large sizes and feature generous medallions. Keshan rugs from central Persia show finely drawn patterns, while Sarouk rugs are considered particularly dense and robust. They are joined by Tabriz and Bidjar rugs. What they have in common is that the sand-coloured ground makes the patterns glow without darkening the room.

Kazak and other designs

Kazak rugs with geometric patterns modelled on Caucasian originals look somewhat more rustic. Overall, just under a quarter of the sand-coloured rugs are heavily patterned, and just under a fifth have an all-over design. Many designs contain kork wool or silk alongside virgin wool.

Sizes and shapes

Nine out of ten sand-coloured rugs are rectangular, and the rest are runners and a few square designs. Alongside the large sizes, there are also 150 x 200 cm, 100 x 150 cm and 60 x 90 cm for smaller rooms. If you want to connect two areas, such as the seating and dining areas, you can work with two rugs in the same shade.

Which colours go with sand?

  • White and cream for a light, Mediterranean look.
  • Petrol and dark blue as a cool contrast.
  • Terracotta and rust, which enhance the warmth.
  • Olive green and sage for a nature-inspired palette.
  • Oak and rattan as matching materials.

Frequently asked questions about sand-coloured rugs

Does a sand-coloured Persian rug go with modern furniture?

Yes. The light ground colour takes the heaviness out of the classic pattern, and with clean, modern shapes it creates an exciting contrast. The calmer the furniture, the more the pattern can show.

How big should a living room rug be?

As a rule of thumb, at least the front legs of the sofa and armchairs should stand on the rug. In large rooms, it can take in the whole seating group, and our sizes from 250 x 300 cm are suitable for this.

Sand or dark beige?

Sand is lighter and more yellowish, dark beige earthier and browner. You will find stronger natural tones among the dark beige rugs, and lighter ones among the light beige rugs.

You will find the full range of beige tones under Beige Rugs.
