Purple and violet rugs in the oriental style

Violet was a rare colour in the history of the oriental rug, and even today purple oriental rugs are seldom seen. That is precisely what makes them appealing: a rug in purple or lilac combines the familiar patterns of the Orient with a shade that surprises and gives a room a character of its own. This page shows only oriental rugs in purple and violet tones; you will find modern designs in our Purple Rugs collection.

Ardebil, Usak, Ghom and Ziegler

In our range you will find purple oriental rugs mainly among Ardebil rugs, Usak rugs, Ghom rugs and Ziegler rugs. Individual Farahan, Mahal, Sarough, Tabriz, Kazak and Baluch rugs complete the selection.

Hand-knotted from new wool

All of our purple oriental rugs are hand-knotted, almost all of them from new wool. They come mainly from Persia, some from Afghanistan and Pakistan. Most are finely knotted, with 160,000 to 250,000 knots per square metre, and a few are considerably finer.

Sizes

Our purple oriental rugs come mainly in living-room sizes such as 200 x 300 cm and 250 x 300 cm, plus smaller rugs and some oriental runners. As most are one-of-a-kind pieces, each size is often available only once.

Furnishing with purple and lilac

Purple harmonises with grey, silver and cool white, as well as with mustard yellow and olive green as a contrast. Lilac looks calm and soft in the bedroom, while a strong violet gives the living room an elegant, slightly extravagant touch.

Frequently asked questions about purple oriental rugs
