140 x 200 cm fits into many homes: in front of the sofa, beside the bed or in the study. The large selection consists mainly of hand-knotted oriental rugs, complemented by modern and woven pieces.

With 140 x 200 cm you choose a rug that is slightly narrower than the widespread 150 x 200 cm size and still offers two metres of length. In rooms where every centimetre of passageway counts, this makes a noticeable difference. The page shows rugs between 130 and 149 cm wide and 190 to 215 cm long, because with hand-knotted pieces the actual size almost always differs a little. The rugs in 150 x 200 cm page offers even more choice around this format.
In the living room, it is best to lay the rug with its long side parallel to the sofa; in front of a two-seater, it then extends beyond the armrests at the sides. In the bedroom, it lies across the foot of a single bed or lengthwise along one side of the bed. Under a desk, it is wide enough for the chair to stay on the rug when it rolls back.
Oriental rugs make up the bulk of the selection, most of them from Persia. The most common are Bidjar rugs. Close behind come Nain rugs in 9La and 6La, Moud from eastern Iran and Nahavand from the province of Hamadan in the west. Geometrically drawn Ardebil and Hamadan rugs round off the picture. Persian Gabbeh rugs stand out with their thick, high pile and a simple, often nomadic design. Further pieces come from India, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nepal and Turkey.
A significant share is modern: modern Kilims, Gabbeh-style rugs from India and simple, plain or striped designs. Some modern pieces are oval; the oval rugs page shows more of them. Classic Kilims from Fars complete the range. Many of the handwoven pieces can be used on both sides.
New wool is by far the most common material, often complemented by Kurk wool or knotted-in silk. Occasionally you will find cotton, viscose, jute or recycled PET. Multicoloured rugs stand alongside beige, red and dark blue; the most common motif is the medallion.
The deciding factor is the space available. Where ten centimetres of extra width would narrow a door or passageway, 140 cm is the better choice; otherwise 150 x 200 cm offers a little more surface.
Yes, some modern rugs in 140 x 200 cm are oval. The rounded ends go well with curved furniture and make narrow rooms look softer.
No. Hand-knotted and handwoven rugs often deviate from the nominal size by a few centimetres. So measure your space beforehand and compare it with the dimensions given for the rug.
