Violet rugs in the room

Violet looks confident, creative and a little mysterious. The shade is darker and bluer than lilac and sets a clear accent in light rooms. A violet rug goes with grey, white and black as well as with mustard yellow, brass and dark wood.

In the living room

In the living room, a violet rug gives a simple seating area character. With a grey or white sofa it creates a modern contrast, with velvet and brass a homely, almost festive mood. An armchair in mustard yellow or a picture in warm tones picks up the contrast and keeps the colour in balance. Sizes such as 150 x 200 cm or 200 x 300 cm suit many seating arrangements.

In the bedroom and the hallway

In the bedroom, violet feels calm and cosy, especially with light bed linen and linen fabrics. Smaller sizes such as 80 x 120 cm sit well beside the bed. For the hallway there is a violet runner that structures long corridors with colour. Our Bedroom Rugs offer further ideas.

Which violet rugs does Morgenland offer?

Our violet rugs are modern designs in virgin wool, almost all of them from India. The range is small and changes, but it still runs from flat-woven kilims through a Gabbeh to a vintage-look design and a shaggy rug. Many show violet as a calm surface with hardly any pattern. This category shows every rug in violet, modern and Oriental alike; at the moment they are all modern designs.

Modern kilims

Modern kilims from India make up the largest group. They are hand-woven, flat and light, and many can be used on either side. Their minimalist patterns bring out the deep violet without looking busy. Thanks to their low weight, they are easy to shake out and to move when needed.

Gabbeh and vintage look

An Indian Gabbeh rug shows violet as a lively shaded surface with a few motifs. Alongside it you will find a design with a vintage look whose washed-out appearance lends the strong shade a certain lightness. We show more understated designs under Plain Rugs.

Sizes and shapes

The violet rugs are mainly rectangular, plus a runner two to three metres long. Available sizes include 80 x 120 cm, 100 x 150 cm, 120 x 180 cm, 150 x 200 cm and 200 x 300 cm.

Which colours go with violet?

  • Grey and anthracite as a calm, modern base.
  • Mustard yellow and ochre as a lively complementary contrast.
  • White and cream, which make violet look fresh.
  • Brass and gold for a refined touch.
  • Sage green as a natural, soft counterpoint.

Frequently asked questions about violet rugs

What is the difference between violet, purple and lilac?

Violet is the darkest and bluest of these tones. Purple is the umbrella term for the whole colour family, lilac a light, soft purple with a pink tinge. You will find more delicate shades among the Lilac Rugs.

Does violet look too dark in a small room?

Not if walls and furniture stay light. A violet rug then becomes a clear focal point. In very small rooms, smaller sizes or a runner are a good choice because they leave more light floor visible.

Are woven kilims hard-wearing?

Yes. The dense weave of virgin wool makes kilims sturdy, and because many are reversible, they can be turned over and so wear more evenly.
