Lilac rugs in the room

Lilac looks delicate, romantic and light. The colour recalls the blossoms of early summer and brings a soft, friendly mood into the room. A lilac rug goes with white, light grey and silver as well as with sage green and light wood, and it always looks a little special.

In the bedroom

In the bedroom, lilac creates a calm, cosy atmosphere. With white or grey bed linen, linen and light wood, the result is a harmonious, airy room. A rug of 170 x 240 cm or 200 x 300 cm sits well under the bed, smaller sizes such as 70 x 140 cm beside it. Our bedroom rugs show suitable designs for this room.

In the living room

In the living room, a lilac rug adds a subtle, modern accent of colour. With sofas in grey, white or dark blue, it looks fresh and elegant. For large rooms there are also sizes such as 250 x 350 cm and 300 x 400 cm, which take in a whole seating landscape. Cushions in sage or rosé and a vase of fresh flowers pick up the colour.

Which lilac rugs does Morgenland offer?

A good three fifths of our lilac rugs are modern designs, and just under two fifths show classic patterns. More than half come from India, a good two fifths from Afghanistan. A little more than half are hand-knotted, and the rest are hand-woven. Almost all are made of virgin wool, some with silk. The rugs with classic patterns are Oriental rugs, almost all of them from Afghanistan.

Gabbeh and designer rugs

Gabbeh rugs from India, knotted or made on the loom, make up the largest share. They show lilac as a calm, slightly shaded surface, and just under half of all lilac rugs are plain. Designer rugs complete the selection with abstract shapes and soft colour gradients.

Kazak, Farahan and Ziegler

Classic patterns in lilac come from Afghanistan: Kazak rugs with geometric shapes modelled on Caucasian originals, rugs with a Farahan pattern and fine blossoms, and Ziegler rugs with generous tendrils. You will find more rugs of this origin under Afghan Rugs.

Sizes and shapes

A good three quarters of the lilac rugs are rectangular, one in ten is a runner, and there are a few round and square designs. Common sizes are 170 x 240 cm, 200 x 300 cm and 70 x 140 cm, as well as the large sizes 250 x 300 cm, 250 x 350 cm and 300 x 400 cm.

Which colours go with lilac?

  • White and light grey for a clear, light room.
  • Sage green as a natural, soft contrast.
  • Silver and chrome for a cool, elegant look.
  • Dark blue and plum for more depth.
  • Light wood such as ash or pine.

Frequently asked questions about lilac rugs

Doesn’t lilac look too playful?

With grey, white and clean-lined furniture, lilac looks grown-up and modern. A plain Gabbeh is calmer than a patterned design. If you prefer a more classic look, choose a rug with a Farahan or Ziegler pattern, in which lilac is combined with cream and delicate greens.

What is a Farahan pattern?

Farahan is a region in central Persia whose rugs are known for fine floral patterns spread across the whole field. Today this pattern is also knotted in Afghanistan and offered in many colours, including lilac.

Are there stronger shades of purple?

Yes. You will find stronger violet and purple tones under Purple Rugs, and delicate pinks under Pink Rugs.
