This Malay carpet is of the best quality. Rustic charm, warm natural tones in indigo blue and red and special durability are the hallmarks of the Malayer. Hand-spun Iranian highland wool gives it a soft sheen. The centre field is usually marked by a diamond-shaped medallion. Malayer is considered one of the simplest of Persian carpets. They are traditionally hand-knotted in the villages around the Iranian city of Hamedan. Each carpet is an imaginative individual piece. Small irregularities in the pattern indicate this.
