Salmon Pink Rugs

Salmon is a gentle shade between pink and orange, warm and friendly. Our salmon pink rugs are mainly hand-knotted Oriental rugs from Persia, plus modern Nepal and Gabbeh rugs.

Salmon pink rugs in the room

Salmon brings a gentle warmth into the room. The colour looks softer than red and friendlier than beige, which is why it suits light, calm interiors well. In Oriental rugs, the shade sometimes develops from a red that has mellowed over time, giving the rugs a lived-in, elegant character. In north-facing rooms, salmon noticeably warms the cool light.

In the bedroom

In the bedroom, a salmon pink rug creates a cosy, almost romantic mood, especially with white bed linen, light wood and brass. Sizes such as 120 x 180 cm fit beside the bed, and 200 x 250 cm under a double bed. You will find more ideas under Bedroom Rugs.

In the hallway

Almost a quarter of our salmon pink rugs are runners, many of them between two and three metres long. In the hallway, the colour brightens dark corners and looks friendly without pushing itself to the fore. We show more designs under Hallway Rugs.

Which salmon pink rugs does Morgenland offer?

Almost all our salmon pink rugs are hand-knotted. Around two thirds are Persian rugs, alongside pieces from Afghanistan and Nepal and a few from India. A good three quarters show classic Oriental patterns. The rest are modern rugs, mainly Nepal and Gabbeh rugs with calm surfaces and fine borders.

Persian and Kazak rugs

The Persian rugs include Bidjar, Hamadan and Tabriz, often with a medallion; about half of all salmon pink rugs have one. Kazak rugs bring geometric patterns modelled on the Caucasus, in which salmon often meets blue and ivory; you will find more designs under Kazak Rugs. Some pieces contain silk, which makes the soft shade shimmer.

Nepal rugs

Nepal rugs show salmon as a calm, almost plain surface or with fine borders. They suit modern, pared-back interiors especially well, where the rug makes its impact mainly through colour and material.

Older pieces

The salmon pink rugs also include some older pieces that are 25 years old or more, among them a few semi-antique rugs. Their shade has often aged particularly softly and evenly.

Sizes and shapes

Just under three quarters of the salmon pink rugs are rectangular, and almost a quarter are runners. There are a few round and square designs. Medium sizes such as 100 x 150 cm, 120 x 180 cm and 150 x 200 cm are common, and they suit bedrooms, dressing rooms or reading corners.

Which colours go with salmon?

  • White and cream for a light, fresh room.
  • Grey and taupe, which make the shade look more grown-up.
  • Sage green as a gentle contrast.
  • Petrol or dark blue for more tension.
  • Brass and rose gold as shiny accents.

Frequently asked questions about salmon pink rugs

Doesn’t salmon look too playful?

Not if the surroundings are calm. With grey, taupe and clean-lined furniture, salmon looks grown-up and elegant. A Persian rug with a medallion underlines this effect even further.

What does semi-antique mean?

We describe rugs that are about 50 to 100 years old as semi-antique. They already have a patina, that is, a colour and surface softened by use and light, and they are usually one-of-a-kind pieces. With salmon pink rugs, this gentle ageing is often particularly appealing.

Salmon or terracotta?

Salmon is lighter and pinker, terracotta earthier and more orange. You will find stronger shades among the terracotta rugs.
