In oriental rugs, orange is rarely garish. Warm, earthy tones are typical: rust, terracotta, copper and salmon. They give a room a warmth reminiscent of autumn leaves and fired clay. Here you will see only oriental rugs in shades of orange and rust; you will find the modern versions in our Orange Rugs collection.
Most common in our range are Bidjar rugs in rust and terracotta, known for their dense, robust knotting. They are joined by Ziegler rugs with generous floral patterns, Moud rugs, Ardebil, Sarough and Hamadan rugs, and Tabriz rugs in 40 and 50 Raj. Part of the selection features nomadic patterns, such as Turkaman rugs and Kilims from the province of Fars.
The vast majority of the orange oriental rugs in our range are hand-knotted, and some are handwoven. The pile is mostly new wool, on many rugs Kurk wool; on some, silk adds fine highlights. Most come from Persia, others from Afghanistan, India and Pakistan. Alongside new rugs, you will find a few older pieces aged 25 to 50 years.
The range extends from small sizes such as 100 x 150 cm through 200 x 300 cm up to 300 x 400 cm. For long hallways there are orange and rust-coloured oriental runners, as well as square and round rugs.
Rust and terracotta tones harmonise with natural wood, cognac leather and plants. With petrol, dark green or navy blue they create a strong contrast; with cream and sand, a calm, warm effect. In bright rooms with plenty of white, a rust-coloured oriental rug quickly becomes the centrepiece.
Above all Bidjar, Ziegler, Moud and Tabriz rugs in rust, terracotta and salmon. Bright orange is rare in oriental rugs; most pieces show warm, muted tones.
Rust is warmer than dark red and makes a room feel cosy but not heavy. In small rooms, light walls and a rug with light borders help.
Yes. Warm tones are forgiving in everyday life and go well with wooden tables. Choose a rug large enough for the chairs to stay on it even when pushed back – usually around 60 to 70 cm extra all the way around the table.
