A square rug has no lengthwise direction. It gives the room a calm centre and lets a central medallion have the same effect from every side. Here you will find only oriental rugs in a square format, knotted or woven by hand and mostly from Persia.
The largest group is made up of Kilims from Fars: handwoven and in many cases reversible. Also strongly represented are Tabriz rugs in 40 and 50 Raj. They are joined by Bidjar rugs, Moud rugs and Nain rugs in 6La, 9La and 12La.
The greater part of the selection is hand-knotted, a large part handwoven. Some pieces are very finely knotted, a few with up to around one million knots per square metre. Alongside new rugs, you will find some older and semi-antique pieces, including old Kilims.
The selection focuses on two sizes: around 100 x 100 cm and around 200 x 200 cm. Side lengths of around 150, 250 or 300 cm are less common. For a dining table, choose the rug so that it extends around 60 cm beyond the table on every side.
They work well in rooms with an approximately square floor plan, under square or round dining tables, in front of seating groups with armchairs and in reading corners. Small sizes set accents in the hallway, beside the bed or in front of a chest of drawers.
The range extends from small sizes around 50 x 50 cm through rugs around 100 x 100 cm to large sizes around 200 x 200 cm and above. You will find the exact dimensions of each rug on its product page.
Hand-knotted and handwoven rugs are made without a machine. Deviations of a few centimetres between length and width are typical of handcraft. That is why you will also find sizes such as 100 x 103 cm in our range.
Among others, you will find hand-knotted Persian rugs such as Tabriz, Nain, Bidjar, Moud and Hamadan, as well as Kilims, for example from the Fars region or from Afghanistan.
Most models are made of new wool or Kurk wool. Some fine rugs, such as Nain or Tabriz, also contain silk, which highlights patterns and outlines.
Vacuum the rug regularly in the direction of the pile without a rotating brush, and turn it occasionally so that it wears evenly. Blot stains immediately with an absorbent cloth, without rubbing. For a thorough clean, Morgenland offers professional rug cleaning.
