How Are Our Rugs Produced?

People are at the centre of everything we do. This approach runs through all areas of the company and is characterised both by the personal care we give our customers and by the relationship we cultivate with our weavers. Because only under fair conditions can sustainable business relationships be created that produce the most beautiful products. It is important to us to pay fair wages for this work. That is why our carpets have different prices than machine-made goods. Sustainability is a major concern for us. We distance ourselves from the throwaway society."

GoodWeave has been successfully campaigning to end exploitative child labour in the carpet industry since 2009. Its main focus is on the payment of adequate wages to carpet weavers and compliance with high standards, including social and ecological criteria. The organisation is supported by renowned development services and ensures that carpets are produced ethically and in an environmentally friendly manner. Independent inspectors regularly check production sites, and certified carpets offer consumers confidence in ethical products. GoodWeave is a key player in the fight against child labour and sets standards for fair working conditions and environmental protection in the industry. RUGMARK Foundation
RUGMARK Foundation
RUGMARK, the initiative against the use of illegal child labor in the carpet industry, was initiated in 1994 by Indian carpet manufacturers and exporters as well as many leading non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Intensive campaigns against the use of child labor were set as the goal. To avoid the negative consequences of illegal child labor for the workers, exporters, and carpet manufacturing regions, positive solutions were required. Together with UNICEF and the German-Indian Export Promotion Project (IGEP) of the German Society for Technical Cooperation (GTZ), the RUGMARK system was developed. Meanwhile, RUGMARK is a trademark-protected certification that assures importers and buyers that the carpet was made by a company committed to working without illegal child labor and is subject to an effective monitoring mechanism.
