Loribaft Rugs: Blend of Persian Artistry and Modern Designs

Loribaft belongs to the group of Rizbaft rugs and is actually the high-end variant of Gabbeh rugs with an extremely fine and dense weave. Loribafts therefore require 5 to 6 times longer production time than normal good Gabbeh rugs. The pattern is typical of South Persian nomads and somewhat more traditional, like that of Loribaft rugs.

What makes Loribaft rugs so unique?

The most famous nomadic rugs from Iran are Gabbeh rugs. Traditionally, they are knotted by the nomads of the Ghashghai tribe in Fars province. Originally, the soft rugs served the nomads as a floor covering and as a sleeping pad. Loribaft rugs belong to the Gabbeh rugs, but with their extremely fine and much denser weave, they achieve a quality of the highest level. Translated into German, Loribaft means "knotted by the Lori tribe".

As with the classic Gabbeh, two different threads are twisted together and tied with Ghirodes and Senneh knots. However, compared to the normal good Gabbeh rug, the knotting of Loribaft rugs is up to five times finer and takes up to six times longer. While very coarse Loribaft Gabbeh rugs are often below 70,000 knots per square meter, a Loribaft with very fine knotting reaches 250,000 knots and more.

At Morgenland rugs we place great emphasis on quality. Therefore, a Loribaft rug is finely manufactured with approximately 160,000 to 202,500 knots per square meter. For the pile of Loribaft rugs, only hand-spun and high-quality sheep's wool are used. Natural vegetable dyes provide beautiful natural tones. As usual with real nomadic rugs, the warp and weft are also made of wool. With pleasure the stylish Persian models are imitated by Indian manufacturers in an excellent way and offer a price-attractive alternative. Also Indian Loribafts they are characterized by high quality and softness and are equally robust and durable.

The most important feature of the Loribaft rug is undoubtedly that it combines the classic patterns of the Persian nomads with a very high fineness of knotting, which we do not usually find in nomadic rugs. In addition, the Loribaft has a rather untypical fringe ending, which other Persian rugs usually do not have. With the Loribaft, the fringes are executed as a kilim. Due to their very fine, dense knotting, these rugs take three times longer to make than normal Gabbeh rugs. However, this gives users a high quality, because the fine knotting shows the smallest details and makes the rug extremely robust and therefore durable, despite the finest fine materials. The high quality wool and intricate handwork create a unique feel and look.

What does the Loribaft rug look like?

The Loribaft rug has modern patterns and is made of high quality wool. This distinguishes it from classic Persian rugs. Its designs are characterized by highly stylized pattern elements that come from the tradition of Persian nomadic rugs. Its rather subtle color scheme makes it suitable for any interior style.

Genuine Loribaft rugs and their patterns and colors

Nomadic rugs are generally rather simple in their patterns and not very detailed. They often depict landscapes and the animal and plant life around the life of the nomads. Due to the finer weave, however, a much more filigree pattern can be achieved with the Loribaft. Adapted to European tastes, colorful geometric patterns are now also available. Unicolored and monochrome designs are also very popular.

The color palette of genuine Loribafts is very rich in nuances and varies from natural gray, brown and cream tones to strong blue, yellow and green to the typical Loribaft red. A loribaft also looks very elegant in bright white or extravagant black. All tones look very natural and never garish. Loribaft rugs are especially popular because they skillfully combine the stylized pattern elements of classic nomadic rugs with a much finer weave.

About the proper care of Loribaft rugs.

To remove dust and dirt from Loribaft rugs, regular vacuuming with a standard vacuum cleaner is recommended. This is not necessary on a daily basis and should not be done on the highest setting to protect the pile. Vacuuming reliably keeps your rug from becoming dull and lackluster. One-sided use can be easily avoided by regularly rotating 90 or 180 degrees. This also applies to rugs that receive direct sunlight. Small stains can usually be easily dabbed off with warm water and a wool cloth due to the high fat content of wool. Cleaning agents should not be used here to protect wool fibers and color. If cleaning becomes necessary due to heavier soiling, you should always hire a specialized rug cleaning service.
